The General Chapter in 1997 valued the importance of the role of the laity in the mission of the Church. It realized the powerful and dynamic apostolic energy that could be utilized in enriching and radiating the spirit of our Congregation through those who wish to associate with our spirituality and mission. To this end, an Associates partnership was proposed for the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
This association has been formed for members of at least 18 years of age that within their secular reality want to live their faith working for the well being of the church and society. They commit to the charism and the spirituality of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
The relationship between the Sisters and the Associates is a partnership. This partnership is a mutual commitment made for the purpose of spiritual growth and participation in the mission and charism of Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and through the spirit of family. Our founder, Fr. Joaquin Masmitja communicated the spirit of family with joy, simplicity and kindness. Associates united in the spirit of love will live the spirit of family in responding to the necessities of society. (p 2, Association Masmitja)
The objective of the Association program is to foster relationships within the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary family by:
- Social gatherings
- Other creative ways
We ensure times together for prayer and spiritual renewal by Eucharistic celebration, Liturgy of the Hours, Celebration of the Word, Jubilees, Retreats, Various feast days of Mary, Various devotions to Mary, and other major liturgical feasts and events.
